REGULATIONS

Art. 1

The Associazione Settimane Musicali di Stresa - Festival Internazionale is organising the fifth edition of International Composition Competition “Settimane Musicali di Stresa” 2011.

Art. 2
The theme of the Competition is an unpublished, never before performed, Composition for orchestra, lasting between 8 and 12 minutes. The Composition may be made up of the following maximum orchestral components: 2 flutes (second also piccolo), 2 oboes (the second also English horn), 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, 1 trombone, timpani, percussions (two performers), strings (6 firsts, 6 seconds, 4 violas, 4 cellos, 2 double-basses).

Art. 3
Compositions which include voice, electronic instrumentation, digital processing and amplified systems will be excluded from the Competition.

Art. 4
The Competition is open to composers of all nationalities and ages. Each composer may participate with several works, providing they have not been awarded a prize in any other competition.

Art. 5

To participate it is necessary to submit in a separate sealed envelope 6 (six) copies of the Composition, perfectly readable, and with no sign of the identity of the author, together with the following data:
  • name and surname
  • place and date of birth
  • nationality
  • two recent photographs
  • home address, e-mail address and telephone numbers for any communications
  • curriculum vitae (in Italian or English)
  • a comment, if any, about the score (in Italian or English)
  • permission for performance and diffusion of the work (in Italian or English)
  • receipt of payment by postal account.
The score may be marked by use of a pseudonym but must not in any way indicate the name and surname of the author, on which penalty of exclusion from the Competition.

In any case the date of posting will be confirmed by the post office stamp.

Art. 6

The registration fee is of € 60,00 (sixty/00) for the first score registered and of € 30,00 (thirty/00) for any successive scores written by the same author. The payments, addressed to Associazione Settimane Musicali di Stresa – via Carducci, 38, I-28838 STRESA (VB), Italy, can be made by any of the following means:
  • national or international postal order
  • payment on postal account no. 17243288 (IBAN IT64 D076 0110 1000 0001 7243 288 BIC/SWIFT: BPPIITRRXXX)
The registration fee is non-refundable except in the case of the Competition not taking place.

Art. 7
The international Jury will be composed of 5 (five) members including: M° Giorgio Battistelli (President), M° Gianandrea Noseda (Artistic Director) and M° Edward Gregson (UK). The Jury will meet by June 25th, 2011 and will announce the winning score.

Art. 8
The author of the winning composition will receive a scholarship of € 6.000,00 (six-thousand/00). The prize cannot be shared.
There will be an acknowledgement of merit of two other compositions that will not, however, receive a money prize.
The Jury’s decision is final.

Art. 9
The winning score will be performed during the 50th edition of the Stresa Festival. Any television, radio or recording of the winning score are authorised by the author of the work, without any further onus on the part of the Organisation.
The awarding of the prize will take place during the course of the same evening. The composer will be offered accommodation for the day of the performance, at the Organisation’s expense.

Art. 10
The winner must send at his own expense to the Secretary of the Competition, few days after the Jury announcement, all the material needed for the publication and performance.

Art. 11

5 (five) copies of the scores will be returned at the author’s expense by way of a payment, on registration, of € 30,00 (thirty/00) as a contribution towards the postal expenses. One will be retained by the Organisation.

Art. 12
The application for participation in the Competition implies complete acceptance of these regulations. In the eventuality of a dispute the version in Italian language of this announcement shall be legally binding. The Court of Verbania shall be competent to resolve any disputes.
