REGULATIONS


Art. 1
The Associazione Settimane Musicali di Stresa - Festival Internazionale is organising the third edition of the International Composition Competition 'Settimane Musicali di Stresa'- 2007.

Art. 2
The themes of the Competition are:
a. an unpublished, never before performed, Composition for orchestra lasting between 8 and 12 minutes;
b. an unpublished, never before performed, Orchestration of the following Schubert's Lieder:
Nachtstück op. 36 no. 2 D 672 (in C sharp minor)
An die Leier op. 56 no. 2 D 737 (in C minor - E flat major)
Im Haine op. 56 no. 3 D 738 (in A major)
Guarda che bianca luna D 688 no. 2 (from Vier Canzonen, 1820)
Da quel sembiante appresi D 688 no. 3 (from Vier Canzonen, 1820)
Mio ben ricordati D 688 no. 4 (from Vier Canzonen, 1820)

The Composition and the Orchestration must be made up of the following maximum orchestral components: 2 flutes (the second also piccolo), 2 oboes (the second also English horn), 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 trumpets, 2 horns, 1 trombone, timpani, percussion instruments (two performers), strings (6 firsts, 6 seconds, 4 violas, 4 cellos, 2 double-basses).

Art. 3
Compositions which include voice, electronic instrumentation, digital processing and amplified systems will be excluded from the Competition. Orchestrations which include electronic instrumentation, digital processing and amplified systems will be excluded from the Competition; only female voice (soprano) is admitted. Only the original melodic line of the voice is admitted.

Art. 4
The Competition is open to composers of all nationalities and ages. Each composer may participate with several works providing they have not been awarded a prize in any other competition.

Art. 5
To participate it is necessary to submit in a separate sealed envelope 6 (six) copies of the scores, perfectly legible, and not showing any sign whatsoever of the identity of the author, together with the following data:

  • name and surname;
  • place and date of birth;
  • nationality;
  • two recent photographs;
  • home address, e-mail address and telephone numbers for any communications;
  • curriculum vitae (in Italian or English);
  • any comment about the score written in Italian or English;
  • permission for performance and diffusion of the work (in Italian or English);
  • receipt of payment by postal account or photocopy of the cheque.

The scores may be marked by use of a pseudonym but must not in any way indicate the name and surname of the author, on which penalty of exclusion from the Competition.
The envelope must be mailed by 15th May 2007 to:

In any case the date of posting will be confirmed by the post office stamp.

Art. 6
The registration fee is of Euro 60 (sixty) for the first score registered and of Euro 30 (thirty) for any successive scores written by the same author. The payments, addressed to Associazione Settimane Musicali di Stresa - via Carducci, 38 - I 28838 STRESA (VB), can be made by any of the following means:

  • non-transferable cheque;
  • national or international postal order;
  • payment on postal account IBAN IT64D0760110100000017243288.

The registration fee will not be refunded except in the case of the Competition not taking place.

Art. 7
The international Jury will be composed of 5 (five) members, among which M° Ivan Fedele (President), M° Gianandrea Noseda (Artistic Director) and M° Zygmunt Krauze (Poland). The Jury will meet by 15th June 2007 and will announce the winning scores.

Art. 8
The author of the winning Composition will receive a scholarship of Euro 5.000 (five thousand).
The author of the winning Orchestration will receive a scholarship of Euro 2.000 (two thousand).
The prize cannot be shared.
There may be an acknowledgement of merit of two other compositions that will not, however, receive a prize.
The Jury's decision is final.
The winning Composition will be published by RAI TRADE Edizioni Musicali.
If the winner is bound exclusively to another publisher, he or she shall be responsible for obtaining an exemption (clearance) from such an obligation for the publication for RAI TRADE Edizioni Musicali.

Art. 9
The winning scores will be performed during the 46th edition of the Settimane Musicali di Stresa e del Lago Maggiore. Any television, radio broadcasting or recording of the winning scores are authorised by the authors of the works, without any further onus on the part of the Organisation. The awarding of the prizes will take place during the same evening. The composers will be offered accommodation for the day of the performance, at the Organisation's expenses.

Art. 10
The winners must send at their own expenses to the Secretary of the Competition, few days after the Jury announcement, all the material needed for the publication and performance.

Art. 11
5 (five) copies of the scores will be returned at the authors' expenses by way of a payment, at the moment of registration, of Euro 30 (thirty), as a contribution towards the postal expenses. One copy will be retained by the Organisation.

Art. 12
The application for participation in the Competition implies complete acceptance of these regulations. In the case of a dispute the version in Italian language of this announcement shall be legally binding. The Court of Verbania shall be competent to resolve any dispute.
