CiomeiSergio Ciomei graduated in piano in 1984, under the guidance of Franco Trabucco. Then he attended master classes held by Muriel Chemin, Piero Rattalino and Andràs Schiff. Winner of several international awards, he won the International Mozart Competition at Salzburg Mozarteum in 1991.
Alongside his piano activity Sergio Ciomei has studied harpsichord under
Christophe Rousset and Jan Willem Jansen and fortepiano under Andreas Staier and Laura Alvini. Between 1989 and 1994 he was Assistant Professor to Frans Brüggen and Kees Boeke for baroque music master classes at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena.
Sergio Ciomei has a busy concert schedule around the world as a piano and harpsichord soloist and in ensembles like
Tripla Concordia, Il Giardino Armonico, Europa Galante, Le Musiche Nove and la Scintilla, with which he has performed at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Wigmore Hall in London and Musikverein in Vienna. He has also played at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, the Philharmonie in Berlin, the Teatro Regio in Turin, and the Salzburg Mozarteum.
Since 2005 Sergio Ciomei has conducted the ensemble Tripla Concordia and the Kammerorchester Basel. With the latter he recently recorded a CD featuring Händel’s arias, for the Sony label. He frequently works with singer Cecilia Bartoli, and has recently started partnering the Argentinian cellist Sol Gabetta. In 2012 he widely toured Europe with the ensemble Il Giardino Armonico, playing Bach’s Brandenburg Concert.
