The Italian pianist Roberto Prosseda’s sensational discovery of new Mendelssohn works made headlines in Europe and led to three Decca releases. His 2009 live recording of Mendelssohn’s 3rd Piano Concerto with the Gewandhaus Orchestra and Riccardo Chailly won the Diapason d’Or of the Month and the Choc de Classica.
Highlights of Prosseda’s concerts in recent years include solo appearances at the Philharmonie in Berlin, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Wigmore Hall in London, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Triennale Köln, Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow. In 2009 Prosseda made his solo debuts with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the New Japan Philharmonic, the Residentie Orkest in The Hague, the Flemish Radio Orchestra, the Calgary Philharmonic and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Born in Latina, Italy, in 1975, Prosseda began his piano coaching with Anna Maria Martinelli and Sergio Cafaro. Then he studied at the Accademia Pianistica “Incontri col Maestro” in Imola with Alexander Lonquich, Boris Petrushansky and Franco Scala and at the International Piano Foundation in Cadenabbia with Dmitri Bashkirov, Leon Fleisher, William Grant Naboré, Charles Rosen, Karl Ulrich Schnabel, and Fou Ts’Ong.
After winning major prizes in several important piano competitions, including the Umberto Micheli in Milan, the Franz Schubert in Dortmund, the Alessandro Casagrande in Terni and the Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Salzburg, he has enjoyed success in more than forty countries in Europe, Asia, Australia, North and South America.
His Decca recordings include Cds dedicated to Chopin, Schumann and Liszt.
He performed at the Stresa Festival in 2005 and 2008.
