nashResident Chamber Ensemble at London’s Wigmore Hall, the Nash Ensemble is acclaimed for its adventurous programming and virtuoso performances. It presents works from Haydn to the avant-garde and is a major contributor to the recognition and promotion of contemporary composers, having commissioned over 175 new works. Dreamers of Dreams, their 2012/13 series at Wigmore Hall, focused on works by British composers from the first half of the 20th century as well as a 70th-birthday concert for composer David Matthews. The Nash tours throughout Europe and the USA. Recent highlights include residencies at the Lofoten (Norway) and Toronto (Canada) festivals, and concerts at the Vienna Musikverein and the Berlin Konzerthaus. Recent CD releases include works by Schumann, Turina and 19th-century Russian composers. Future releases offer chamber works by Frank Bridge and works by Czech composers imprisoned in the Theresienstadt concentration camp between 1941 and 1945.
The Ensemble recently took part in the premiere recording of Harrison Birtwistle’s The Moth Requiem, which was performed in August as part of the BBC Proms. The Ensemble has received two Royal Philharmonic Society Awards “for the breadth of its taste and its immaculate performance of a wide range of music”.
