AstrusiThe Accademia degli Astrusi, under the musical direction of Federico Ferri, has enjoyed significant success during the last few years from its audiences and the critics in important events and venues including the Berlin Konzerthaus, Opéra National de Bordeaux, Festival MiTo, Festival Rota dos Monumentos, Muziekcentrum De Bijloke Gent, Amici della Musica di Firenze, Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti di Roma, Teatro Comunale di Bologna. The ensemble has performed in radio programs, playing at the Wigmore Hall (broadcasted live by the BBC) and at the Palazzo del Quirinale in Rome (broadcasted live by Rai Radio3).
The Accademia’s projects have included collaboration with soloists such as Anna Caterina Antonacci (Era la Notte), Sara Mingardo, Stefano Montanari, Laura Polverelli, Aldo Caputo and Marcello Gatti.
The Accademia degli Astrusi has completed a project based on rediscovery of the instrumental works of Padre Giovanni Battista Martini, Mozart’s famous teacher, most of which are unpublished despite their musical importance; the group has produced world-première recordings. These notable works by the Bolognese composer are being made available thanks to the musicological research, manuscript transcription and critical edition (published by Suvini-Zerboni) carried out by Daniele Proni and Federico Ferri, who also follows the musical direction.
Accademia’s recordings have been transmitted by many TV and radio stations, such as the BBC, Rai1, Rai3, Sky Classica, Radio della Svizzera Italiana, Rai Radio3 and some others within the EBU Network.
Recently the Accademia degli Astrusi gave a concert as part of the UNESCO Music Days in Ghent, acting as the musical ambassador of Bologna in the world. The Astrusi also performed Il Maestro di Musica and Il Don Chisciotte, two rare intermezzos by Martini at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna; the scenery was based on some original drawings done specifically for the occasion by Nobel Laureate Dario Fo.
In 2012 the Accademia will debut at the Monteverdi Festival, and will perform again at the Wigmore Hall in London.
