In 1998 Sergio Foresti made his operatic debut in Vivaldi’s L’Olimpiade at the Teatro Rendano of Cosenza. Since then, he has been performing in some of the most important festivals and theatres throughout Europe. After taking part in the Wexford Opera Festival and in the Opera Barga Festival, he sang as Plutone in Monteverdi’s Orfeo at the Styriarte Festival in Graz. He sang in Cimarosa’s Il marito disperato at the Teatro di San Carlo of Naples, followed by a new production of L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Teatro Comunale of Bologna in the 2001/02 season. Then he appeared at the Teatro Real in Madrid and in Bologna again as Achilla in Giulio Cesare, both under the baton of Rinaldo Alessandrini, as Plutone in Orfeo in Cremona, Como, Brescia and Pavia, and at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, and as Nerbulone in Eliogabalo at the Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie in Brussels and in Innsbruck. His 2004/05 season was marked by a tour of Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria at Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona and then in Como, Brescia, Pavia, performances of L’incoronazione di Poppea in Strasbourg and on a tour with Rinaldo Alessandrini, Montezuma with the Ensemble Mondo Antiquo in Rotterdam, again the role of Antinoo at the Staatsoper Berlin, Publio in La clemenza di Tito on a tour to Brussels, Köln, Paris and Berlin, concerts with the Freiburger Barockorchester and the RIAS Kammerchor, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solemnelle in Gelsenkirchen. He sang Ipermestra (Danao) at the Oude-Muziek Festival in Utrecht, Salieri’s Passione di Gesù Cristo with Ottavio Dantone at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. In January 2007 he sang Monteverdi’s Orfeo (Caronte) and Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine at the Staatsoper Berlin with René Jacobs. He sang Orfeo (Caronte) on an Italian and Spanish tour and in Bruges with Rinaldo Alessandrini, and recorded the same role for Naïve. Moreover he sang the role of Caronte in Vienna with René Jacobs. He has just sung Alcina (Melisso) at the Bayerische Staatsoper.
Among his future projects, the role of Theodorus in Boris Goudenow by Mattheson in St. Petersburg, Moscow and in Hamburg,  Caldara’s Maddalena ai piedi di Cristo (Fariseo) in Paris under the baton of René Jacobs, Monteverdi’s Vespera in Nativitate Domini  with Rinaldo Alessandrini on an Holland tour.
Sergio Foresti took part in several festivals of ancient music in Holland (Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Nijmegen, Delft), Belgium (Bruges, Antwerpen, Brussels, Liège), Austria (Vienna, Linz, Innsbruck, Graz, Krieglach), France (Paris, Caen, Beaune, Ambronay, Nantes, Nice, Montpellier), Switzerland (Zurich, Genève, Freiburg, Lugano), Germany (Köln, Herne, Frankfurt, Mainz, Regensburg), Spain, (Madrid, Santander, Gijon, Oviedo, Ubeda, Granada, Santiago de Compostela), Portugal (Lisbon, Coimbra), England (London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, York, Aldeburgh), Ireland (Kilkenny), Norway (Bergen), Finland (Turku,Vaanta), Israel (Jerusalem, Tel Aviv), Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto), USA (New York), Turkey (Istanbul), Italy (Monteverdi Festival in Cremona).
After an initial activity as chorus singer in several theatrical institutions, his particular interest in Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music brought him to perform with numerous ancient music ensembles: among them, Concerto Italiano, Reverdie, Giardino Armonico, Europa Galante, Sonatori della Gioiosa Marca, Accademia degli Invaghiti, Cappella Ducale di Venezia, Accademia Bizantina, Clemencic Consort, Athestis Chorus, Capella Reial, Ensemble a Sei Voci. In this period he had the chance to sing under the baton of Rinaldo Alessandrini, Fabio Biondi, René Clemencic, Enrico Gatti, Jordi Savall. He collaborated as soloist with the Cappella di San Petronio di Bologna, Accademia Chigiana di Siena, Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia in Rome and appeared at the Ravenna Festival, Rossini Opera Festival, Festival dei Due Mondi of Spoleto, RAI, Radio France, RTSI, WDR.
Sergio Foresti’s recorded La clemenza di Tito (Publio) with René Jacobs for Harmonia Mundi, CD that obtained the Grammy Award 2006 as “Best Classical Album”; Vivaldi’s L’Olimpiade (Alcandro) with Rinaldo Alessandrini (Opus 111/Naïve); Vivaldi’s Tito Manlio (title role) with Modo Antiquo and Federico Maria Sardelli (CPO). He also collaborated with Virgin, Chandos, Stradivarius, Dynamic, Tactus, Bongiovanni, Arcana, Divox.
Born in Modena in 1968, Sergio Foresti graduated with full marks in piano, under the guidance of Germana Ruozi, and in singing with Maria Gabriella Munari at the Istituto Musicale Orazio Vecchi. He subsequently took part in the specialising courses held by Liliana Poli.
