The Salonschleicher ensemble was founded in
1991. Born in Würzburg, this group has developed amongst members of the
University’s Academic Orchestra, made up of students of all faculties.
The
ensemble, made up of a smaller number of musicians, has concentrated on dance
repertoire and, more in general, on an entertaining musical genre, made up
essentially of compositions written in the Twenties and in the Thirties, when varieté
theatres and dance rooms were extremely popular in Germany.
The Salonschleicher
ensemble has carried out, since the beginning of its career, an important
number of concerts both in Germany
and in Italy.
In 2004
most of the musicians moved to Berlin, which became
the group’s new city
of residence. The
Salonschleicher ensemble has recorded two CD’s: Unverbindliche
Tanzempfehlung (1999) and Wer tanzt
schon gern allein (2005).
«The
Twenties in Berlin...
the arrival of talking movies... In dance rooms and in Varietés, orchestras
play to entertain people and to make them dance. Were them “roaring” years?
Undoubtedly they have been extremely creative and lively. The Salonschleicher
ensemble from Berlin has built up, throughout
this programme, this same atmosphere, proposing the melodies that used to
enchant Berlin, Germany,
and probably all of Europe. As in tradition,
this group is made up of four violins, flute, clarinet, trombone, piano and
percussions”.
