Ruben-4 Ruben Burvenich is a third-year student at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven, Belgium. There he studies composition under the guidance of Jeroen d’Hoe.
At the age of 10 he taught himself to play the guitar. Soon he developed an interest in the modern electric guitar. For this instrument and for music theory he had private tutors. From 2005 until 2008, he studied at the Haspengouwse Academie for music, theatre and dance in Sint-Truiden (Belgium). His courses were electric guitar, combo, pop music history, classical piano and classical harmony. Ruben Burvenich has always been active in pop and rock bands.
For two years (2007-2008) he has worked on his magnum opus The Mystical Journey through the Land of Melancholy, a 2-hour composition for concert band and rock band. At the concert in May 2008 he played the guitar and the piano parts himself.
Since the start of his studies at the Lemmens Institute, his style of writing has evolved in the direction of contemporary classical music. After only a few months at the Institute his newly written composition for string orchestra was premiered at the Contemporary Music Festival in Leuven. Even though he studies the classical genre, his musical roots lie in the pop and rock culture. This gives his music a hybrid character, which makes it enjoyable for listeners with diverse musical backgrounds.
