Stier

The tenor Matthias Stier was born in 1983 in St. Gallen (Switzerland). From 2000 until 2006 he attended the master classes held by Elio Battaglia at the summer academy of the university “Mozarteum” at Salzburg where in 2006 he won a price as best participant. In June 2006 he graduated magna cum laude as bachelor in the field of “Musica Vocale da Camera” at the Conservatory of music “G. Verdi” in Turin (Italy) under the directory of Erik Battaglia where he is striving now for a master degree.
Matthias Stier won several international competitions. In 2004 he was distinguished as best “Lieder-interpreter” at the “Renata Tebaldi” Competition in San Marino and in 2005 he won the Calpurnia-pri­ce at the “Festival delle Nazioni”, Città di Castello, where he also debuted in the role of the Arlecchino in Szymanowski’s opera Mandragora. In the competitions “Silvio Omizzolo” (Padua 2006) and “Città di Conegliano”, 2008, he was awarded with the first price. At the opening concert of the festival “Reggio Parma” (2005) he was presented as promising young tenor. Repeatedly he was a soloist at the Settembre Musica/Mito, accompanied by renowned pianists like Boris Petrushansky. In February 2008 he sang the tenor part in a performance of
Dvořák´s Requiem in Istanbul with the Borusan Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Choir conducted by Gürer Aykal. In May 2009 he debuted successfully at the season of the Unione Musicale, Turin, in a recital accompanied by Alexander Lonquich. In 2010 he intensified his activity with recitals in China and Russia. He also held Liederabende at Rouen Opera House (France) and the Teatro Comunale di Treviso (Italy). In June 2010 he participated in the production of Robert Schumann’s Manfred at the Teatro Regio, Turin.
Since April 2008 Matthias Stier is a scholarship holder of “Migros-Kulturprozent”, Zürich.
