BerriniConductor and pedagogue, Marco Berrini is one of the most active choral conductors in Italy today. Currently a professor of choral music at the Conservatorio Antonio Vivaldi di Alessandria, his conducting includes the direction of a number of ensembles.
He is founding Artistic Director of the professional vocal ensemble Ars Cantica Choir & Consort. Since 1988, Ars Cantica has won numerous prizes in both national and international competitions, collaborated in major national and international festivals, and they present a vibrant concert season each year in Milan. Their discography includes many works never before recorded: A. Lotti, Gastoldi, Palestrina, Lasso, Ruffo, Grancini, Durante, Nietzsche, Perosi and Bettinelli.
Marco Berrini is also the founding Artistic Director of the Chamber Choir of the Conservatoire “Antonio Vivaldi” in Alessandria, Italy. Recognized for their outstanding recordings, the Chamber Choir is also known for world premières of scores by such composers as Bruno Bettinelli, Irlando Danieli, Orlando Dipiazza, Bruno Zanolini. Since 2009, he is also the Artistic Director of the Milano Choral Academy, a unique international training program for choir directors and singers.
Berrini has worked in major festivals and concert seasons throughout Italy including the Società del Quartetto (Milan), the Teatro Bellini (Catania), the Teatro Due (Parma), l’Associazione Scarlatti (Naples), Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (Florence). His international work includes Musica Antica di Málaga (Spain), the Coro de Ópera de Málaga (Spain), the Coro of “La Maestranza” Theatre in Seville (Spain), the Orchestra and Chorus of the Comunidad de Madrid (Spain), the Teatro Real di Cordoba (Argentina), the Polyphonic Choir of Cordoba Province (Argentina), the National Youth Choir of Argentina, as well as in Portugal, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Israel and the United Arab Emirates. He has also presented workshops at the XVI Europa Cantat, for Adicora, the XXIII Encuentro Coral (Málaga, Spain) and the Vox Mirabilis workshops (Vélez-Málaga, Spain).
A graduate of the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi di Milano, where he studied piano, conducting, composition and musicology, Berrini went on to receive first prizes in numerous national and international conducting competitions. He was a finalist in the premiere “Mariele Ventre” competition (Bologna, 2001) where he was awarded the 3rd prize (tie). From 1989 to 1992 he was Deputy Director of the Italian national broadcasting network (Rai) Chamber Choir in Rome, with which he made recordings for Rai Radio-3.
He edits choral scores for several publishers, including Suvini Zerboni, Carrara, Rugginenti, Discantica, and Carisch. On a regular basis he is also a jury member for various national and international choir competitions.
He performed at Stresa Festival in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
