Wonderbrass The brass quintet Italian Wonderbrass was founded in 2006 by five young Italian-raised musicians, now active in some of Europe’s finest orchestras, with the intention of giving their audiences a dynamic, versatile and internationally competitive chamber music group. Ever since their foundation, Italian Wonderbrass have been enjoying wide consent and earning great success, playing not only within Italy, but especially abroad. To be mentioned, a highly acclaimed trip to Canada (Banff Centre for the Arts) as well as the participation at important Italian and German festivals, such as the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Festival Mitte Europa, the Festival Internazionale di Ottoni di Bagnolo Mella, the Primiero Dolomiti Festival, the Settimane Musicali Bresciane and the Festival delle Vacanze musicali di Sappada. They were the only Italian group to be invited to the prestigious International Trumpet Guild Conference in 2008, where they gave two performances, getting superb feedback from both the audience and the press, and being hailed as “the World’s best young brass quintet”.
The quintet’s repertoire is constantly expanding, including both original works and transcriptions, and covering a wide range of periods, from the Renaissance to the 21st Century, over Baroque, Romantic, but even opera as well as various pop and folk music styles. A typical concert programme would include works from every age and style, with particular attention to the historical performance practice and the musical details. Apart from the arrangement of the Pines of Rome, new compositions have been written for Italian Wonderbrass: among others Bel Canto by Fabiano Fiorenzani, FourDotZero by Carlo Tenan, Un giorno di festa by Damiano Rota and, more recently, Will Wonders Never Cease by the American composer Stanley Friedman.
