People’s Artist of Russia and Honoured Artist of Russia, Gennady Bezzubenkov is also a recipient of the State Prize of Russia. Awarded the “Golden Sofit” for his portrayal of Gurnemanz (Parsifal, 1997) he is also a recipent of the “Golden Mask” National Theatre Award for the best male role in the same opera.
Born in the Ulyanovsk Region of Russia, Gennady Bezzubenkov graduated from St Petersburg Conservatory in 1979 and 10 years later he joined the Mariinsky Theatre as principal soloist.
His repertoire includes over 50 roles, spanning operas by Glinka, Musorgskij, Borodin, Anton Rubinstein, Caikovskij, Rimsky-Korsakov, Prokof'ev and Sostakovic. In addition, he sang many major roles in Italian and German operas.
Gennady Bezzubenkov has toured with the Mariinsky Theatre to the Uk, Germany, France, Israel, Usa (Metropolitan Opera), Finland, Italy, Austria, Spain, Belgium and Japan.
He performed at Stresa Festival in 2000.
