VASSALLO Born in Milan Franco Vassallo is one of the most requested Italian baritones, appearing in the prestigious theatres like Teatro alla Scala, Metropolitan Opera New York, Covent Garden, Wiener Staatsoper, Fenice of Venice, San Carlo of Naples, Teatro Comunale of Florence, Teatro dell’Opera of Rome, Carlo Felice of Genua and Arena of Verona. He regularly performs in Rigoletto, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Macbeth, Don Carlos, Ernani, Un ballo in maschera, I Vespri Siciliani, La forza del destino, Falstaff, I puritani, Lucia di Lammermoor, Lucrezia Borgia, La bohème, Madama Butterfly. In the 2009/10 season ha sang Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia) at Teatro alla Scala and at Met, Don Alfonso (Lucrezia Borgia) and Macbeth in Munich, Ezio (Attila) in Hamburg and at Met. In the last months he performed Jago (Otello) in Baden Baden, Amonasro (Aida) in Hamburg and Rigoletto in Padua. He was Guido di Monforte in the production of I Vespri siciliani at Teatro Regio of Turin, for the celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Unity of Italy.
This year he performed also the role of Rigoletto again at Regio of Turin, Giorgio Germont in Wiesbaden and Marcello (La bohème) at Opera of Rome. He will sing Rigoletto at Dresden Staatsoper; Conte di Luna (Il trovatore) at Fenice of Venice and at Met where he will perform also Falstaff (Ford); Macbeth and Don Alfonso (Lucrezia Borgia) at Staatsoper Munich where he will be involved in December 2012 in a new production of Rigoletto.
Franco Vassallo studied singing with Carlo Meliciani. In 1994 he won the International Competition As.Li.Co. in Milan, making his debut as David (L’amico Fritz) and Belcore (L’elisir d’amore). In 1997 he won the International Competition of Budapest, managing by Arena of Verona.
He performed at Stresa Festival in 2009.
