semenchuk.jpgBorn in Minsk, mezzo soprano Ekaterina Semenchuk graduated from the St Petersburg State Conservatoire and was a member of the Young Singers Academy of the Mariinsky Theatre.
In competition, Semenchuk’s successes include the International Obraztsova Competition where she won the Hope award and the first prize at the International Rimsky-Korsakov Competition in St Petersburg, finalist in the Placido Domingo Operalia Competition and finalist in the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition.
Her operatic performances include the role of Preziosilla in La forza del destino at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Marina in Boris Godunov at Monte-Carlo Opera, Pauline in Pique Dame at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin with  Daniel Barenboim and Olga in Evgenij Oneghin with the Aix en Provence Festival conducted by Daniel Harding. Semenchuk has sung the title role of Carmen at the Opera Company of Philadelphia, the Dallas Opera, in the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari with Ives Abel, in Tokyo and Seoul with Myung Whun Chung and with Josè Cura in Warsaw. Other performances include concerts of Berlioz’s Romeo et Juliet with the Göteborg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Carlo Rizzi, Werther at the Graz Opera, solo part in La morte de Cleopatre with Gergiev in Concertgebouw, Ascanio in Benvenuto Cellini at the Baden-Baden Festival.
With the Mariinsky Opera under  Gergiev, Ekaterina Semenchuk took part in the international tours including Covent Garden, La Scala, Teatro Real in Madrid, Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall in New York, in Washington Opera, in Salzburg Festival (in concert performances of Pique Dame, Kitezh and War and Peace), in Israel, China and many European countries. In St Petersburg at the Mariinsky Theatre she took part in the productions of Nabucco (Fenena), Carmen, Les contes d’Hoffmann (Nicklausse), Dargomizhsky’s The Stone Guest (Laura), Rimsky-Korsakov’s May Night (Hanna) and many others.
In concert, Semenchuk has given her debut recital at the Wigmore Hall and has toured in Europe, North America and in Argentina. Semenchuk’s debut recording of Russian songs is available on the Harmonia Mundi label. 
Recent engagements include the roles of Sonya in War and Peace and Olga in Evgenij Oneghin at the Metropolitan Opera, Olga at the Royal Opera House in London and the role of Carmen conducted by Riccardo Chailly in Leipzig in 2009.
