With technical brilliance and authority, with
intellect and emotional esprit, in only a few years Daniel Müller-Schott has
succeeded in establishing himself on the world’s important concert
platforms. With studies under Walter Nothas, Heinrich Schiff and Steven
Isserlis, Müller-Schott has also benefited from the personal support of
Anne-Sophie Mutter as a scholarship recipient from her Foundation. Aged
only 15, the start of a notable career was recognised as he took first prize of
the Moscow International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians. He plays
the “Ex Shapiro” Matteo Goffriller cello, made in Venice in 1727.
Conductors with whom Müller-Schott collaborates
include Vladimir Ashkenazy, Charles Dutoit, Christoph Eschenbach, Alan Gilbert,
Dmitrij Kitajenko, Gianandrea
Noseda, Yakov Kreizberg, Kurt Masur, Sakari Oramo and Sir
André Previn on the podiums of such orchestras as the New York Philharmonic,
Boston Symphony and Philadelphia Orchestras, Oslo Philharmonic, the radio
orchestras of Berlin and Hamburg, Orchestre National de France, Orchestre de
Paris, The Philharmonia, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the New
Japan Philharmonic.
During 2007/08 Müller-Schott performs with the
Hamburg State Philharmonic/Simone Young, with both the Vienna Symphony and
Chamber Orchestra of Europe under Yakov Kreizberg, Saarbruchen Radio
Orchestra/Christoph Poppen, Brabants Orchestra/Reinhard Goebel. He
made his Finnish debut with the Tapiola Sinfonietta under its’ Artistic
Director Olli Mustonen and toured with the Polish Radio National Symphony
Orchestra and Daniel Raiskin performing in Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw Hall,
Cologne’s Philharmonie, and Antwerp.
Daniel Müller-Schott collaborates with pianist
Angela Hewitt. Their debut recording of Bach’s Gamba Sonatas on the ORFEO label
has won huge praise. As well as continued recording plans performances in
2007/08 include Stuttgart, Copenhagen,
London, Bologna, San Francisco and Vancouver,
where he was also soloist with the Vancouver Symphony.
In summer 2008 Müller-Schott tours with
Christoph Eschenbach and the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra. He
debuts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic
at the Hollywood Bowl Festival and is “Artist in Residence”
at the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern 2008 Festival. Following his debut in 2007 at the
Tanglewood Festival with the Boston Symphony under Sir André Previn, he
was immediately invited to return in 2008 under the baton of Bernard Haitink.
Müller-Schott’s chamber music partners include
Anne-Sophie Mutter, Sir André Previn, Julia Fischer, Angela Hewitt, Renaud
Capuçon, Robert Kulek, Olli Mustonen, Lars Vogt, Christian Tetzlaff and
Jean-Yves Thibaudet.
Müller-Schott’s impressive discography on ORFEO
is soon to include Shostakovich's Cello Concertos with the Symphony Orchestra
of the Bayerischer Rundfunk conducted by Yakov Kreizberg release in spring
2008.
Encouraging young people to understand the
fascination and magic of music Daniel Müller-Schott is a regular leader of the
“Rhapsody in School” project, the brainchild of his friend and pianist,
Lars Vogt.
