Coro-Teatro-Regio-di-Torino

The Chorus of the Teatro Regio of Torino was established in 1945 after the fire of the Theatre in1936 and the second world war interrupted its activity, becoming, in 1967, the permanent chorus of the Teatro Regio. It is made up of around seventy-five singers and is regularly engaged both in productions of the Opera Season and in intense activity around the region for symphonic-choral concerts and “a cappella”.
Since 1993 it has been invited many times to perform with the Rai Orchestra of Torino (which then became the Rai National Symphony Orchestra). From 1994 to 2002 it was directed by Bruno Casoni. In 1996 it took part in the centenary performance of La bohème by Giacomo Puccini with Luciano Pavarotti and Mirella Freni, broadcast live on television by the Rai. In 1997 it participated in Verdi’s Otello with the Berliner Philharmonijer, conducted by Claudio Abbado.
With the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio, it has recorded for Nuova Era Il barbiere di Siviglia and Don Pasquale with Bruno Campanella conducting, and in 1997 Hardy Classic put out a video of Rossini’s Elisabetta, regina d’Inghilterra, conducted by Gabriele Ferro, with singers Lella Cuberli, Daniela Dessì and Rockwell Blake. Under the direction of Bruno Casoni the Chorus of the Regio reached a stylistic perfection recognised by national and international critics, allowing the group to be considered one of the best at the European level. As evidence of the quality they have reached, one need only consider the performance at the Teatro Regio of the B minor Mass by Johann Sebastian Bach in May 2002, under the direction of Semyon Bychkov.
Since September 2002 the Chorus has been led by Claudio Marino Moretti, later substituted by Roberto Gabbiani, nominated Chorus Master of the Teatro Regio in July 2008.
In 2004, members of the artistic groups of the Teatro Regio formed the Orchestra Filarmonica ’900 and the Coro Filarmonico of the Teatro Regio, both organizations active in performing symphonic-choral works.
The Chorus perfermed at Stresa Festival in 2000, 2001, 2007 and 2008.
