ballista.jpgAntonio Ballista has always taken interest in the most various fields of music: he made personal explorations across the genres of ragtime, of Italian and American songs, of rock and soundtracks. His concert programmes often change into a real theatrical way and are built always with a particular attention to open new cultural visions to the public.
Ballista has played under the leading of Pierre Boulez, Riccardo Chailly, Bruno Maderna and guest starred at the most important international orchestras and festivals: Bbc Orchestra, Concertgebouw, Israel Philharmonic, Filarmonica della Scala, London Symphony, Orchestre de Paris, Philadelphia and Cleveland, New York Philharmonic, Festival of Paris, Edinburgh, Warsaw, Berlin, Strasbourg, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Venice.
Several composers wrote for Ballista: Berio, Bussotti Castaldi, Castiglioni, Donatoni, Lucchetti, Morricone, Mosca, Picco, Sciarrino, Sollima and Ugoletti.
As a pianist he has often toured with Berio, Dallapiccola e Stockhausen and played monographic concerts with Boulez, Cage and Ligeti.
His passion for the lieder literature pushed him to start collaborations with singers as Roberto Abbondanza, Anna Caterina Antonacci, Phillys Bryn-Julson, Monica Bacelli, Cathy Berberian, Luisa Castellani, Massimo Crispi, Gloria Davy, Kim Kriswell, Sarah Leonard, Anna Moffo, Alide Maria Salvetta, Susanna Rigacci, Luciana Serra, Lucia Valentini Terrani.
He worked also with actors like Gianni Agus, Ernesto Calindri, Arnoldo Foà, Ottavia Piccolo, Paolo Poli, Toni Servillo, Franca Valeri, Milena Vucotic, Peter Ustinov and the dancers Marga Nativo and Elisabetta Terabust. He has been the creator of many multimedia performances.
