lucchesini.jpgBorn in 1965, Andrea Lucchesini studied piano with Maria Tipo, graduating in 1982. In 1983 he became the first Italian prize winner of the “Dino Ciani” International Piano Competition, which launched him on a brilliant international career. Since then, he has been engaged as a soloist with major orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Vienna Symphony, Houston Symphony, London Philharmonic, Royal Scottish National and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra under conductors including Claudio Abbado, Roberto Abbado, Semyon Bychkov, Riccardo Chailly, Dennis Russell Davies, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Daniel Harding, John Neshling, Gianandrea Noseda, Carlo Rizzi and Giuseppe Sinopoli.
In 1994, a jury of international musicologists awarded Lucchesini the prestigious Accademia Chigiana Prize and, in 1995, the Critics Prize F. Abbiati.
In July 2001 Andrea Lucchesini gave the première of the new Piano Sonata by Luciano Berio at the Zurich Festival, followed by performances in major European concert series throughout France, Spain, Portugal, Holland and the UK. His close association with Luciano Berio began when Lucchesini performed his piano concerto Echoing Curves throughout the world, subsequently recording it for BMG with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by the composer in 1995. Two years later he recorded the Berg and Schönberg Concertos with the Dresden Staatskapelle and Giuseppe Sinopoli for Teldec.
Andrea Lucchesini is also deeply committed to chamber music: he usually plays with the cellist Mario Brunello; he toured with the Arditti Quartet, with a Berio/Shostakovich program and regularly participates in the Lockenhaus and Moritzburg Chamber Music Festivals.
He was recently named Artistic Director of the prestigious Music School of Fiesole, replacing Piero Farulli, mythic member of the Quartetto Italiano.
He has been giving recitals and concerts in Paris, Budapest, Barcelona, Valencia and with orchestras in Italy, Spain and Hungary. Recent engagements in the UK include Beethoven Concertos with the London Philharmonic conducted by Vladimir Jurowski and BBC Philharmonic conducted by Edward Downes.
Lucchesini recorded for EMI and BMG; besides he registered Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas cycle for the Stradivarius label, obtaining the Fonoforum Preis in 2004. In 2007 the English label Avie Records has been releasing the complete solo piano works by Luciano Berio: as soon as issued, this Cd was received with unanimous enthusiasm by the international critics, e.g. the 5 stars given by the BBC music Magazine.
He performed at Settimane Musicali di Stresa in 1984.
