The Associazione Settimane Musicali di Stresa - Festival Internazionale is organising the

STRESA EARlab 2007 - Workshop of musical invention

open to all composers and musicians of all nationalities and ages. The teacher will be Maestro Luca Francesconi.

The Workshop will be held in Stresa (VB) from 21st August to 1st September 2007.
Lessons will be daily, as an indication from 10.00 to 13.00 and from 15.00 to 18.00, both on an individual and workshop basis.
From 26th August the Workshop will have the continual collaboration of the BIT20 Ensemble from Bergen (Norway).
Selected composers will be required to compose new works to conclude within the period of STRESA EARlab under the supervision of Maestro Luca Francesconi, as well as one work for solo cello and one work for piano and small ensemble.

A maximum of 6 course members and 10 listeners will be admitted.
For selection candidates will be required to present one composition for a solo instrument or small ensemble with relative recording.

There will be a performance of the compositions elaborated during STRESA EARlab, all of which are part of the official planning of the 'Stresa Festival':

  • an original composition for cello solo;
  • five original compositions with BIT20 Ensemble with the following components (indicative):
  • flute / piccolo
  • clarinet / bass clarinet
  • oboe / english horn
  • bassoon
  • horn
  • piano
  • percussions
  • 2 violins
  • viola
  • cello
  • double bass

One out of the five compositions must be written as a concertino for piano and ensemble.


Scores for selection must be sent to the Segreteria dell'Associazione Settimane Musicali di Stresa, Via Carducci, 38 - 28838 Stresa (VB) - Italy, by and no later than 31st March 2007 including the following data:
  • first name and surname
  • place and date of birth
  • nationality
  • two recent photographs
  • home address, telephone number, e-mail address
  • curriculum vitae in English or Italian
  • receipt of the payment of € 50,00 (fifty/00), enrolment fee, which can be made on postal account no. IT64D0760110100000017243288 or by national or international postal order.
It is strongly advised to send in audio and video material as evidence of the candidates' experience.

The enrolment fee will be refunded only in the event the Workshop will not take place.

Applications will be selected by the Commission, whose verdict will be notified to all applicants by 15th April 2007.

The active students will pay € 500,00 (five hundred/00), the listener students will pay € 100,00 (one hundred/00). Travelling and accommodation expenses must be paid by the participants.
Special conditions for hotel accommodation are foreseen. One or more candidates will possibly be selected to receive a scholarship for the accommodation expenses.
