Marco Berrini
berrini.jpg Born in Milan in 1964, after having gained his diploma in Piano, Choral Music, Choir Conducting and Composition for vocal polyphony at the Conservatory in Milan, he has dedicated his time, since he was very young, to choral music, studying also orchestra conducting and musicology. He has won the first prize at the following choral competitions.
He has worked with distinguished conductors such as A. Ceccato, O. Dantone, G. Noseda, P. Csaba and with ensembles and orchestras such as I Virtuosi Italiani, the Orchestra Stabile di Bergamo, the Orchestra Mozart e Milano, the Orchestra Musica Rara, the Quartettone of Milano, the Orchestra 'Gavazzeni', the Orchestra delle Settimane Musicali di Stresa, the Orchestra Sinfonica Marchigiana and in important festivals and concert seasons in Italy and abroad.
From 1989 to 1992 he has been stage maestro and choir conductor of the Coro da Camera della Rai di Roma, with which he has released several recordings for RAI Radio Tre.
He founded and is conductor of the Chamber Choir of the Conservatory 'Antonio Vivaldi' in Alessandria, with which he frequently performs and releases CDs and registrations. He has conducted the first performances of compositions and his discography as conductor of Ars Cantica Choir & Consort include several CDs entirely devoted to composers such as Antonio Lotti (Messa del Primo Tuono e Mottetti), Giovanni Giacomo Gastoldi (Musica sacra a S. Barbara all'epoca di Guglielmo Gonzaga), Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (Missa Pro defunctis a 5 e II Libro dei Mottetti), Orlando di Lasso (18 Responsori per la Settimana Santa), Vincenzo Ruffo (Salmi Suavissimi et Devotissimi a 5), Michel'Angelo Grancini (Giardino Spirituale de varii fiori musicali), Francesco Durante (Vespro della Beata Vergine & Messa a tre voci), Friedrich Nietzsche (Weihnachtsoratorium, for soloists, chorus and piano), Lorenzo Perosi (Missa 'Benedicamus Domino' e 8 Responsori per il tempo di Natale), Bruno Bettinelli (Missa Brevis et Motetti) - almost all of them are first recordings.
He has been invited to the XVI Edition of the International Festival 'Europa Cantat' (Mainz). In september 2007 he is invited by the Buenos Aires National Juvenile Choir of Argentina for a series of concerts on the Italian music of the XX century. He is artistic director and conductor of the Ars Cantica Choir & Consort. He also conducts the professional vocal quartet 'S. Tecla' of Milan Cathedral. He has been editor of the publications on vocal music for the publisher Suvini Zerboni, Carrara, Rugginenti. He is regularly invited in the juries of choral national and international competitions. He is member of the Technical and Artistic Commission of the Associazione Regionale Cori della Valle d'Aosta. He teaches choral practice at the Conservatory in Alessandria.
