Admitted candidates and course development

Open to young singers no older than 30 years on 27th August 2012, the object of the Academy is the realization of the opera Il barbiere di Siviglia by Gioacchino Rossini. It will be given by Natale De Carolis, with the assistance of Giulio Laguzzi (Music Collaborator of Teatro Regio Torino) and with the participation of the pianist Antonella Poli (Music Collaborator of Accademia Teatro alla Scala di Milano).
Active students will be admitted.
Lessons will take place in Stresa (VB) from 27th August to 6th September 2012. At the end of the Academy, the active students will perform the semi-staged version of the opera with orchestra on 6th September 2012, in the context of the 51st edition of the Stresa Festival.
The students have to arrive in Stresa on 27th August 2012.

The students will be selected for the following roles:

  • Figaro, baritone
  • Rosina, mezzo
  • Il Conte di Almaviva, tenor
  • Don Bartolo, bass or bass-baritone
  • Don Basilio, bass or bass-baritone
  • Berta, soprano.

Admission procedure

Application form must be sent to the Segreteria dell’Associazione Settimane Musicali di Stresa, Via Carducci, 38 - 28838 Stresa (VB) – Italy, by and no later than 20th May 2012, including the following data:

  • first name and last name
  • place and date of birth
  • nationality
  • two recent photographs
  • home address, phone numbers, e-mail address
  • curriculum vitae in Italian or English
  • letters of reference by important musicians
  • any CDs and DVDs, in duplicate, testifying the experience of the candidate.

The selected candidates will be notified for the audition within 30th May 2012.

Audition and selection

Selected candidates will be invited to give an audition – date and place to be announced – within 20th June 2012. In order to be admitted to the audition, candidates have to pay € 50,00 (fifty/00). Candidates shall sing an aria from the opera Il barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini and two arias by their own choice related to the historical period of Rossini’s opera. The organisation will arrange the accompanist pianist.
The active students of the Academy must know their own part by heart since the first rehearsal.

Admission fee

The participation in the Academy is free.

Scholarship

The students will receive a scholarship, which will cover the expenses for meals and hotel accommodation from 2nd to 6th September 2012.
Travelling expenses must be paid by the students.
