Pavel Berman attracted much attention when he won the First Price and Gold Medal at the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis in 1990. The Indianapolis Awards for the best performance of Paganini’s Capricci and of Ysaye’s Sonata opened the way to his first Cd, recorded a few months later with Koch International. Previously, at the age of seventeen, Pavel Berman had won the Second Prize at the 1987 Paganini International Violin Competition in Genoa, Italy.

Pavel Berman entered the Central Music School of the Moscow Conservatory at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory. At the age of seven Mr. Berman made his public debut with the Gorky Philharmonic Orchestra and he went on to develop a wide repertoire, performing through the Soviet Union, giving recitals and appearing with the State Orchestra of the Ussr, the Moscow Philharmonic and other orchestras. While performing internationally, Mr. Berman moved on to study with Dorothy DeLay, in 1992, at the Juilliard School in New York and then with Isaac Stern, an encounter that undoubtedly and profoundly marked his musical creativity.

Developing his international career he has performed with the Dresden Staatskapelle, the Indianapolis Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony, the Dallas Symphony, the Miami Philharmonic, the Prague Symphony, the Liverpool Royal Philharmonic, the Beijing Philharmonic, Berliner Symphoniker.

Pavel Berman has reached audiences in such prestigious concert halls as the Carnegie Hall in New York, Théâtre des Champs Elysées and Salle Gaveau in Paris, Herkulessaal in Munich, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Bunkakaikan in Tokyo, La Scala Theatre, Conservatorio Verdi in Milan, Parco della Musica in Rome, Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels.

A new period in Berman’s artistic career opened in 1997 when he became Musical Director of the Kaunas Chamber Orchestra in Kaunas, Lithuania.

In May 2007 Berman has inaugurated the David Oistrakh Festival in great violinist’s native town of Odessa. The next concert seasons he is going to appear as a soloist and/or conductor with such orchestras as the Mantua Chamber Orchestra, Toscanini of Parma, Teatro Comunale of Bologna, Lithuanian National Chamber Orchestra, Kaunas Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Virtuosi, Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Prague Symphony Orchestra, Romanian National Radio Orchestra, Portuguese National Symphony Orchestra, Wurtembergische Philharmonie Orchestra as well as with a number of Russian and Italian orchestras.

Mr. Berman has recorded for Koch International, Audiofon, Discover, Supraphon and Phoenix Classics and he plays the Antonio Stradivari violin Maréchal Berthier, Cremona 1716 “ex Napoléon” of the Pro Canale Foundation of Milan.

He performed at Stresa Festival in 2007.
