carola.jpgBorn in Naples and trained at the Opera Studio of La Monnaie in Brussels, he won a scholarship to the opera course at The Guildhall School of Music in London in 1996. He created and recorded several contemporary Belgian compositions and has worked for several opera houses and festivals in Europe and America, including La Monnaie, Opera North, Grange Park Opera, Garsington Opera, Opera de Lyon, Le Châtelet in Paris, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Opera Zuid in Maastricht, Opera of Münster, Teatro Colòn of Buenos Aires, Liceu in Barcelona, Transparant Antwerp, Flemish Opera, Amphitheatre in Epidaurus, Royal Festival Hall in London.
His operatic repertoire includes Lysander in Midsummer Night’s Dream, Albert in Albert Herring, Le Berger in Oedipus Rex, Golo in Schumann’s Genoveva, the title role in Fortunio by Messager, Ulysse in Pénélope by Gabriel Fauré, Don José in Carmen, Beppe in Rita by Donizetti, Lùmir in Sharka by Janacek, Gran Sacerdote in Idomeneo, Le Laboureur in Chabrier’s Le Roi Artus, Chekalinsky in The Queen of Spades, Kaufmann in Jacob Lenz by Wolgang Rhim, the Armed Man and Monostatos in Zauberflöte, Léonard in the world première of La Ville Morte by Nadia Boulanger.
He has worked with conductors  Antonio Pappano, Gabriele Ferro, Steuart Bedford, Harry Christopher, Steven Sloane, Kazuchi Ono, Michel Corboz, René Jacobs, David Hill, David Parry, Luca Pfaff, Daniele Gatti, Will Humburg and directors Luc Bondy, Klaus Michael Grüber, David Poutney, Trisha Brown, Tim Albery, Richard Jones, Mario Martone, Stefano Vizioli, William Kentridge, Matthew Jocelyn, Henning Brockhaus, Cesare Lievi.
His recent appearances include Sellem in The rake’s progress at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Daniele Gatti, for La Monnaie in Bruxelles Dr Cajo in Falstaff and Jacob Glock in the Fiery Angel by Prokofiev with Kazuchi Ono, directed by Willy Decker and Richard Jones. The world premiere of the opera Thyeste by Jan van Vlijmen, on tour with the Reisopera and Kaufmann in Jacob Lenz at l’Opéra Bastille.
