Countertenor José Hernández Pastor was born in Valencia and begins his singing lessons in Algemesí’s Schola Cantorum (Region of Valencia) with Diego Ramón. In 1995 he obtains his piano title and a BA in Musicology, awarded by the University of Oviedo. Spanish and Swiss governments award him a scholarship and he goes to Basel to study with Richard Levitt and, then, with Andreas Scholl. He obtains his concert diploma in 2003. Together with flute player Ariel Abramovich he founds El Cortesano duet, devoted to music for soloist and luthe. He works with several ensembles such as La Capella Reial de Catalunya, Al Ayre Español, Ensemble Gilles Binchois, Capella de Ministrers, Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, Capriccio Basel or Orquesta Pablo Sarasate de Pamplona, and performs in the main European festivals. He registers on a regular basis for different record labels: Arcana, Alia Vox, Harmonia Mundi and Stradivarius.
